Common JLPT Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
31 May 2026 · Mozhippattru Japanese Language School
Many failed attempts come down to avoidable mistakes rather than lack of knowledge.
- Ignoring the sectional minimum. You must pass each section, not just the total — so don''t neglect listening or reading.
- Under-practising listening. It''s the section learners most often leave until too late.
- No timed practice. Running out of time in reading is common; simulate exam conditions beforehand.
- Leaving blanks. There''s no penalty for guessing — always fill an answer.
- Mismarking the answer sheet. Keep your row aligned, especially after skipping a question.
- Choosing too high a level. Sit the level you can actually pass, then climb.
- Cramming the night before. Rest and steady prep beat last-minute panic.
Avoid these and you''ll walk in giving yourself the best possible chance.
