How to Introduce Yourself in Japanese

22 May 2026 · Mozhippattru Japanese Language School

The 自己紹介 (jikoshoukai) — self-introduction — is a Japanese social ritual. A clear, polite one makes a great first impression.

A simple template

— Nice to meet you.
— I''m [name].
— I''m from [country].
— I like [hobby].
— Please treat me kindly.

Example

Tips

  • Keep it short — brevity is polite.
  • A slight bow at はじめまして and よろしく is natural.
  • Practise until it flows without thinking.

Memorise this template and you''ll always have a confident opening line ready.
